Warrant of Fitness Consultation

New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) is seeking feedback on proposed changes to Warrants of Fitness (WoFs) and Certificates of Fitness A (CoF A) for light vehicles.

The proposals include:

  • less frequent WoF inspections for newer vehicles
  • the first WoF for new vehicles after 4 years
  • every 2 years for vehicles aged 4 to 10 years
  • every year for vehicles over 10 years.

Inspections would also include checks of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems features. The aim is to reduce unnecessary costs while maintaining safety standards.

Public consultation is open until 17 December 2025.
