Updated vehicle safety ratings on Rightcar

The Rightcar website now has the 2025 used vehicle safety ratings to guide buyers in choosing cars that lower crash risk and protect against serious injury or death.

Why safety ratings matter

Drivers of low rated vehicles are twice as likely to be killed or seriously injured than drivers of high rated vehicles.

Safety ratings for the majority of the light vehicle fleet were updated on 1 December 2025 to incorporate the latest real world crash data from New Zealand and Australia.

The latest ratings cover most cars, SUVs, utes, and other light vehicles. Monash University Accident Research Centre calculates them using police crash data.

The ratings do not compare vehicles to a fixed standard. They show how each vehicle performs against all others in the fleet.
